New York Home Inspector Licensing Requirements

Does the state of New York require licensing of home inspectors?
Yes.

High school diploma required?
Yes, or equivalent.

Educational requirements:
180 hours.

Recommended education:
The ASHI School.

Advanced recommended education:
Carson Dunlop Home Inspection Training Program.

Examination required:
National Home Inspector Examination.

Insurance required?
$150,000 per occurrence liability insurance with $500,000 aggregate.

Continuing education required?
12 hours every two years.

Experience required?
Education has to include 40 hours of supervised, unpaid in-field inspections. Also need to perform 100 fee paid inspections under direct supervision of a licensed home inspector.
